Primo Changes Plant Hormone Levels That Prompt Beneficial Side Effects For Healthy Turf

چکیده
Primo (trinexapac-ethyl) is probably the most commonly used plant growth regulator (PGR) on fine turf surfaces throughout the world. Most of us are quite familiar with the fact that, when used at label rates and timings, Primo reduces leaf elongation at four to seven days after initial application and will usually provide a 50 percent reduction in clippings. However, for many turf managers, reduced mowing frequency is often not the primary reason for continued Primo use. What they come to value most are many of the sideor secondary-effects that Primo has on turfgrass growth and development. A recent hypothesis that we were able to test is that increased tillering and prolonged green color of Primotreated leaves may be correlated with increased levels of cytokinins, a group of hormones responsible for cell division, new tiller initiation and delayed senescence. However, before discussing these results, we need to spend some time trying to understand the data and observations on secondary effects that led to this hypothesis. To guide and visualize this discussion, a "Primo roadmap" has been developed presenting primary and secondary effects (Figure 1).

The Influence of Plant Growth Regulators on Golf Course Turf
Plant growth regulator (PGR) technology is poorly understood by a majority of golf turf managers. PGRs are touted as tools for reducing mowing, controlling annual bluegrass and increasing green speed. PGRs recommended for use on high quality (or Class A type) turf generally inhibit cell elongation for a period of time (weeks). The process of regulating cell elongation includes the synthesis of ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Trifluralin on LH, FSH and Testosterone Hormone Levels and Testis Histological Changes in Adult Rats
Background Trifluralin is a herbicide and used in agriculture widely. It enters plants through developing roots and stops plant cells from division and elongation (meristemic inhibitor). Extensive application of trifluralin to control annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in agriculture, horticulture and horn garden, leads to environmental pollution and its entrance into the food chain could have ...
متن کاملWater stress, nano silica, and digoxin effects on minerals, chlorophyll index, and growth in ryegrass
Water shortage worldwide mandates minimum use of irrigation water with maximumefficiency and productivity in all agricultural crops, landscape plants and turf. The objective inthis experiment was to study the effect of two levels of evapotranspiration-based (ETc) droughtin combination with two levels of nanosilicon dioxide (SiO2; NanSi1=1 mM and NanSi=2 mM),two levels of digoxin (Dig1=0.25 mg.l...
متن کاملEffects of twelve weeks of resistance training on the resting levels of cardiac and related hormones in healthy men
Introduction: Heart secretes hormones such as natriuretic peptide. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 12 weeks of resistance training on these hormones. Methods: Twenty four healthy men (Mean age ± SD: 24.9 ± 3.2 years) were randomly allocated to experimental and control groups. Subjects in the experimental group performed a 12-week resistance training program, 3 ses...
